PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown freshmen lacrosse players Kiki Manners (North Potomac, MD) and Molly McCarthy (Scituate, MA) were named to the 2007 Womenslacrosse.com All-Freshman Team, in an announcement made June 10th by the staff at Womenslacrosse.com. This is the third post-season honor for Manners and McCarthy as both also earned Second Team IWLCA All-Region and Honorable Mention All-Ivy. They are two of just three freshmen from the Ivy League to earn a spot on the All-Freshman Team, with Ali DeLuca of Penn, the 2007 Ivy Rookie of the Year, being the other athlete from the League to earn this honor. In addition, Brown is joined by Rutgers, Syracuse, and Virginia as one of just four schools with two athletes recognized on the All-Freshman Team.
Manners helped to lead the Brown defense this season, while also sparking many transitions as one of the fastest players on the field. A tough one-on-one defender, Manners led Brown with 21 caused turnovers and ranked third on the team with 22 ground balls. She also picked up eight points at the other end of the field with two goals and six assists.
McCarthy finished an outstanding first year for the Bears, anchoring the midfield, while taking the majority of the team's draws. She led Brown with 35 points (10g) and 25 assists, ranking fourth in the Ivy League and 24th in the nation with 1.57 assists per game. She was also second on the team with 20 draw controls and fourth on the team with 20 ground balls. McCarthy's 25 assists this season ranks fourth all-time at Brown.
