Providence, RI - Sophomore Kate Staley (Needham, MA) was named Ivy League Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts in helping Brown to a 12-11 win over Columbia. The Bears' leading scorer with 21 points (16g, 5a), Staley was instrumental in Brown's victory, scoring the winning goal with just seven seconds remaining in the game.
Staley led Brown to a 12-11 come-from-behind win at Columbia with four goals. She also added three ground balls and two draw controls in the win. After the Lions had taken a 9-3 lead early in the second half, Staley started the Bears' comeback with her first of four goals 1:35 into the second half. She added her next goal with 8:09 remaining to cut Columbia's lead to 10-8 and scored her third of the game with 3:35 left on the clock cutting the Lions' lead to 11-10. Just 23 seconds later, the Bears netted the equalizer, before Staley scored an unassisted game-winner with just seven seconds left to play for the 12-11 Brown win.
Now with a 5-2 record, the Bears continue action on Wednesday, April 14, when they travel to Boston to take on Boston University at 4:00 p.m.
