ATHENS, OH - The Brown women's lacrosse team (5-11) closed out its 2006 season on Saturday afternoon with a 10-8 come from behind victory over Ohio (4-12). Brown was paced by senior Kate Staley (Needham, MA) with three goals, while junior Amie Biros (Bethesda, MD) and sophomore Mimi DeTolla (Stony Brook, NY) each scored twice.
After the Bobcats grabbed a 1-0 lead 2:12 into the game, Staley scored her first goal at 6:29 to tie the contest at 1-1. Ohio again went up, 2-1, less than three minutes later, at 9:16, but freshman Bethany Buzzell (Middltown, MD) tied the game at 2-2 at 10:14. Freshman Krystina DeLuca (Hillsborough, NJ) gave Brown a 3-2 lead just 40 seconds later, but back-to-back Ohio goals in a span of 2:34 gave the home-team a 4-3 advantage with 9:09 left in the half.
DeTolla tied the game at 4-4 at 26:51, but another Ohio goal with just 17 seconds left in the half gave the home team a 5-4 lead at the break.
Ohio took its largest lead of the day 1:15 into the second half, but Biros netted her second goal off a pass from freshman Kelly Robinson (Marlton, NJ) 2:10 later to bring the Bears to within 6-5. The Bobcats went up 7-5 at 9:33, but DeTolla's second goal just 15 seconds later sparked a five goal Brown run as the Bears took a 10-7 lead with 4:27 remaining in the game.
Ohio tacked on its eighth goal with 1:09 left, but could get no closer for the 10-8 final.
Sophomore Melissa King (Pepper Pike, OH) recorded seven saves in net for Brown.
