Brown Women's Lacrosse Drops 15-10 Decision to #12 Yale

Providence, RI- The Brown women's lacrosse team fell to 4-8 on the season and 2-3 in the Ivy League on Wednesday afternoon, losing to #12 Yale (11-3, 5-1), 15-10, on Wednesday afternoon at Stevenson Field. The Bears were led by freshman Kate Staley (Needham, MA), who notched three goals and two assists in the loss.

Brown took a quick 1-0 lead on a goal by freshman Ashley Holden (Alexandria, VA) off a feed from Staley, just 2:57 into the contest. However, the Bulldogs responded 43 seconds later on the first of six goals by senior Sarah Queener, who led all scorers with eight points, at 3:40.

The two teams traded goals once again with junior Christine Anneberg (Denver, CO) assisting a goal by Staley for Brown at 3:55, and Miles Whitman scoring for Yale at 4:16.Sarah Passano (Baltimore, MD), and junior Laurel Pierpont (Jacksonville, FL), who netted two during that time, giving the Bears a 7-3 lead with just over 13 minutes remaining in the first half.

However, it was all Yale for the rest of the way, which went on a 6-0 run to close out the first half and an 11-0 run over the next 39:37, to take a 14-7 lead with 7:13 left in the game.

Senior leading scorer Bekah Rottenberg (Colrain, MA), who is 10th on the all-time career scoring list at Brown with 115 points, tallied the Bears' first goal in that span at 27:01, scoring her second in a row at 28:33 with a Yale goal sandwiched in between for the 15-9 score. Staley completed the hat-trick with the final goal of the game at 19:15.

In net, sophomore Julia Southard (Manhasset, NY) made 19 saves for the Bears, who continue action on Saturday April 26, hosting Penn at 11:00 a.m. The game is the final home contest of the season and marks the last career home game for the graduating Class of 2003; tri-captains Maggie Connolly (Manhasset, NY), Jocelyn Moore (Washington, DC), and Rottenberg, and classmate Whitney Talbot (New Canaan, CT).
