PROVIDENCE, RI - Freshman Alexa Caldwell (Middletown, DE) and sophomore Kara Kelly (Garden City, NY) scored back-to-back goals 3:48 apart to give the Brown women's lacrosse team (5-7, 2-3) a 2-0 lead 4:59 into the game, but #14 Yale (11-4, 4-2) scored the next eight goals to cruise to a 12-4 victory over the Bears.
Following the goals by Caldwell and Kelly to open the scoring, Yale's Lauren Taylor scored her first of three goals to get the Bulldogs on the board 25 seconds after Kelly's goal. Taylor's score ignited Yale's offense and it would score three more times over the next 10 minutes to grab a 4-2 lead with 14:22 left in the half. Taylor added her second of the game 6:08 before halftime to give Yale a 5-2 lead at the break.
The Bulldogs opened the second half just as they ended the first, scoring the first three goals of the half during an eight-minute span to take an 8-2 lead.
However, Yale would outscore Brown, 4-1, in the final 17:55 for the 12-4 final. Led by junior Noelle DiGioia's (Pittsburgh, PA) four, the Bears dominated the draw, winning 12 to Yale's six, including an 8-2 advantage in the second half. Senior Melissa King (Pepper Pike, OH) recorded nine saves.
Brown continues action on Saturday, April 19, when it travels to Philadelphia to face Penn at 1:00 p.m.
