HAMDEN, CT - The Brown women's lacrosse team (6-6) dropped its final non-league game of the season on Tuesday afternoon, falling to Quinnipiac (10-2) by an 11-6 score, as the Bobcats won their sixth straight game. The Bears were led by senior Lauren Vitkus (Skaneateles, NY), who scored two goals, while sophomore Alexa Caldwell (Middletown, DE) had six ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Quinnipiac started the scoring with a free-position goal four minutes into the game. Brown rebounded with goals from freshman Katelyn Caro (Andover, MA) and senior Kelly Robinson (Marlton, NJ) to take the 2-1 advantage just under nine minutes into the game. The Bobcats evened the score, 2-2, 11 minutes later, but Vitkus' first of the game with 6:33 remaining gave Brown a 3-2 lead.
Quinnipiac ended the half on a three-goal run to take the lead, 5-3. The Bobcats then scored the first two goals of the second half to increase their lead to 7-3 just 5:31 after halftime. Brown responded with two goals of its own, pulling to within two, 7-5, on goals by senior Jesse Nunn (Worton, MD) and Vitkus.
However, that would be as close as the Bears would get, as Quinnipiac scored four straight goals to take an 11-5 lead with 7:33 remaining. Sophomore Paris Waterman (Newark, DE) closed the game with an unassisted goal at 2:27 for the 11-6 final.
Waterman and freshman Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) each won a pair of draw controls to lead the Bears in that category. Freshman Isabel Harvey (Baltimore, MD) stopped five shots in net, four of which came in the second half.
The Bears return to action this Saturday, April 18, when they host #3 Penn in a 1:00 p.m. game.
