Brown Women's Laxers Drop 13-9 decision to #5 Cornell

Providence, RI - Sophomore Jamie Quinn's third goal of the game midway through the second half broke a 9-9 tie and lifted the fifth-ranked Cornell women's lacrosse team to a 13-9 come-from-behind victory over Brown in an Ivy League game at Stevenson Field. The loss drops Brown to 4-5 overall,1-2 in the Ivy League, while Cornell extended its record to 8-1 overall, 4-1 in the Ivy League.

Brown held a 6-5 lead at the half when sophomore Laurel Pierpont scored a free position goal with 3:21 left in the first half. Quinn scored 50 seconds into the second half to tie the game, 6-6. Brown sophomore Katie Russell responded with her second goal of the game to give the Bears a 7-6 advantage at the 2:10 mark of the final half.

The Big Red came back with goals by Quinn and senior Jamie Reynolds to take an 8-7 advantage, but the Bears answered with goals by sophomore Meredith Goodell at the 6:14 mark, and sophomore Katie Zabel at the 7:14 mark, to grab a 9-8 lead.

Reynolds tied the game for the Big Red, 9-9, at the 14:25 mark of the half, and Quinn scored the game-winner for Cornell at 16:39 on an assist by junior Sarah Averson.

Russell and Goodall led the Bears offensive attack with two goals each, while goalkeeper Nikki Caggiano was brilliant in goal, making 11 saves for Brown.

For Cornell, Quinn, Reynolds and Averson netted three goals each.. Senior Lori Wohlschlegal scored two goals and handed out three assists, and senior Beth Calder added two goals. Senior Carrie Giancola made five saves in net for the Big Red.

The Bears will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to New Haven to battle the Yale Bulldogs.
