Bears Cruise Past Colgate, 10-5

March 14, 2004

Providence, RI - Senior Christine Anneberg (Denver, CO) paced Brown (2-1) with three goals, including two in a 5-1 second-half Brown run, in a 10-5 victory over Colgate (4-1), snapping the Raiders four-game wining streak, on Sunday afternoon at Stevenson Filed.

The Raiders took a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game, but Brown responded with two unanswered goals to take a 2-1 lead at the 5:52 mark of the first half. Freshman Jen Redd (Towson, MD) got Brown on the board off a pass from senior Katie Russell (San Francisco, CA), while junior Sarah Passano (Baltimore, MD) scored off a pass form sophomore Kate Staley (Needham, MA).

Colgate came back to tie the contest at 2-2 at 12:40 of the first, but Brown responded with two more goals, extending its lead to 4-2 at 14:49 of the first half. Passano assisted Anneberg's first of three goals at 13:47, while sophomore Meg Sullivan (Garden City, NY) gave Brown the 4-2 lead off a pass from junior Kierstan Carlson (Medford Lakes, NJ).

However, the Raiders added two goals of their own to knot the contest at 4-4, but senior Laurel Pierpont (Jacksonville, FL) fed freshman Amie Biros (Bethesda, MD) for a goal with 6:21 remaining in the half, which gave Brown a 5-4 lead heading into the second half, a lead it would not relinquish.

Pierpont and Staley connected for a goal just 43 seconds into the second half, starting a 5-1 second-half run for Brown, including a 3-0 run early in the half. Anneberg added a free position goal at 35:23, while Staley notched her second of the game at 43:05 for an 8-4 Brown lead.

Just 1:15 later, Colgate chipped away at the Brown lead, scoring its fifth and final goal of the game, but Passano and Anneberg added tallies for the Bears at 44:46 and 57:58, respectively, to put the game away.

In net for Brown, junior Julia Southard (Manhasset, NY) made five saves, while Sue Bielamowicz stopped 11 shots for Colgate. Brown continues its four-game homestand this Wednesday, March, 17, when it hosts Boston College at 4:00 p.m.
