Bears Open 2004 Season With 12-10 Overtime Victory over UNH

Providence, RI - Senior Christine Anneberg (Denver, CO) paced Brown (1-0) in its season opener with four goals and one assist, including two goals in the overtime, as the Bears picked up a 12-10 overtime victory over New Hampshire (1-3) on Tuesday afternoon at Stevenson Field.
With the game tied 9-9 at the end of regulation, Anneberg tallied back-to-back goals just 12 seconds apart during the first minute of the first 3:00 overtime to give the Bears an 11-9 lead. Sophomore Ashley Holden (Alexandria, VA) tallied the Bears' 12th goal with 1:15 remaining in the second 3:00 overtime, giving Brown a 12-9 lead, but UNH added one more goal with :50 left to play for the final 12-10.
The Wildcats opened the game with back-to-back goals at 4:26 and 6:43 of the first half before freshman Amie Biros (Bethesda, MD) tallied her first career goal to get Brown on the board at 7:13. UNH took a 3-1 lead less than four minutes later, but goals by sophomore Kate Staley (Needham, MA) at 16:37 and senior Laurel Pierpont (Jacksonville, FL) at 21:44 tied the game at 3-3. The two teams traded goals before the end of the half, as Pierpont tallied her second of the game at 28:18 of the first half, to send to two teams into the break knotted at 4-4.
Anneberg and junior Sarah Passano (Baltimore, MD) scored for Brown just 4:16 apart to open the second half and give Brown a 6-4 lead. However, UNH netted three straight goals to take a 7-6 lead with 14:21 remaining in the game. Anneberg and Biros struck for the Bears with 12:57 and 7:15 remaining, respectively, to regain Brown's lead at 8-7. The two teams traded goals during the final 2:47 of the game, as UNH tallied the final equalizer with just six seconds left to play, 21 seconds after Staley had given Brown a 9-8 advantage.
In goal, junior Julia Southard (Manhasset, NY) made nine saves for the Bears, who continue action on Friday, March 12, hosting Maryland at 7:00 p.m.
