CHAPEL HILL, NC- Five different players scored two goals each as the University of North Carolina (3-0) moved past Brown (0-1), 17-5, on Sunday at Henry Stadium. Ranked #1 in the country by this week's Inside Lacrosse media poll, Carolina jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and never looked back, building an 11-1 lead at half-time.
North Carolina got on the board less than a minute into the game and then scored two more to go up 3-0 7:59 in. Down 3-0, the Bears closed the gap in the 14th minute with a goal from junior Mimi DeTolla (Stony Brook, NY). Carolina quickly answered, sparking a 9-0 run that carried over into the second half when the Tar Heals grabbed a 12-1 lead 5:57 into the second half.
The Bears scored four more goals in the final 21:35 on only four shots as sophomore Lauren Vitkus (Skaneateles, NY), DeTolla, and sophomore Bethany Buzzell (Middletown, MD) all found the back of the net.
Freshman Amanda Rosenberg (Lutherville, MD) made a career-high 17 saves in net for Brown, which continues action on Friday, March 2, when the Bears face Sacred Heart at 3:00 p.m.
