Women's Lacrosse Announces 2015 Captains

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team has named its captains for the 2015 season as announced by head coach Keely McDonald on Monday.  Seniors Alyssa DiBona, Janie Gion, Abby Bunting, and junior Richael Walsh will serve as co-captains for the Bears next season.

"We are thrilled to have Jane, Alyssa, Abby and Richael leading the 2015 team," said McDonald.  "As individual competitors, they bring a tenacity and fearlessness to the field that we will need in 2015.  As a group, they will be able to connect with each woman in the program due to their diverse experiences and unique leadership styles.  I can't wait to start this year's journey with our captains and our 2015 team."

DiBona (Media, Pa.) appeared in 14 games for the Bears last season, notching two goals, 20 ground balls and 16 draw controls.  Her five draw controls against Central Connecticut State on March 15 were a career-high in that category.  DiBona netted markers against Dartmouth on March 29 and Harvard on April 5, running her career goal total to nine.

Coming off a Second Team All-Ivy performance in 2013, Abby Bunting (Wellesley, Mass.) missed eight games in 2014 after suffering an injury against Sacred Heart on February 23.  Despite the injury, Bunting found the scoresheet often when in the lineup, recording five goals and three assists in seven contests last season.

On attack, Janie Gion (Northfield, Ill.) finished the 2014 campaign with a career-high 28 points after starting in all 15 games for the Bears.  A strong start saw Gion record a seven-game goal-scoring streak while also boasting two career-high six-point contests against Sacred Heart and Bryant.  Her five strikes against Bryant on April 1 was a career-best and helped pace the Bears to their fifth consecutive Ocean State Cup.

A Westwood, Massachusetts native, Richael Walsh provided contributions from the back line, totaling 12 points on 10 goals and two assists while starting all 15 games.  Walsh recorded a career-high three points against Sacred Heart on February 23 and added a two-goal performance against Michigan on April 9.  She found the scoresheet in 9-of-15 contests in 2014.
