PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Head Coach Keely McDonald '00 and the Brown women's lacrosse team open the 2014 campaign with back-to-back games versus Iona and Sacred Heart this weekend at Stevenson Field.  The Bears are coming off a 9-6 season in 2013 which included a thrilling 9-8 double overtime victory over USC on March 22.

The Bears welcome back five of their top-six goal scorers from 2013. Bre Hudgins (36), Abby Bunting (32), Janie Gion (18), Grace Healy (13), and Danielle Mastro (12) will lead an offensive attack that averaged 11.13 goals per game last season.



Brown finished 22nd overall in the nation last season in scoring defense, surrendering just 8.93 goals per game.



Iona also opens up its season on Saturday as head coach Michelle Mason begins her sixth season at the helm.  Saturday marks the first meeting between the two schools as Brown looks to record its second consecutive opening day victory.  The Gaels return attacker Mary Kate McCormick (20 goals, 13 assists) and midfielder Meghan Testoni (11 goals, 7 assists) as they look to improve on a 4-12 record from 2013.



Sunday marks the 8th meeting between the two schools with Brown claiming all of the previous seven contests, including a 15-5 win the most recent meeting on April 14, 2012.  Sacred Heart returns leading scorer Shelby Vaccaro (36 goals, 21 assists) as they try to improve on a 6-9 record from 2013.



Brown opens up Ivy play next Saturday as they pay a visit to the Lions of Columbia at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium.
