  • Three Women's Laxers Named to 2012 IWLCA Academic Honor Roll

    Three members of the Brown women's lacrosse team are among 173 Division I student-athletes from across the country recognized on the 2012 IWLCA National Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible, student-athletes must be a member of the varsity lacrosse team, must have achieved junior or senior standing academically, and must have achieved a GPA of 3.20 or higher. 19 student-athletes from the Ivy League were recognized in 2012, representing seven of the eight League programs.
  • Women’s Lacrosse Recognized with 2nd-Highest GPA in the Country

    For the second consecutive year, the Brown women’s lacrosse team was recognized as having one of the top three team GPAs in the country, earning IWLCA (Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association) Merit Squad Status. Institutions were named Merit Squads by virtue of having one of the top three team GPAs for the season.
  • Brown Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-Ivy Honors

    Providence, R.I. – The Ivy League released its list of student-athletes selected for 2012 spring Academic All-Ivy, with 10 Brown student-athletes being recognized. The five females and five males were starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.
  • McGilloway and Roos Named All-Ivy

    Brown senior Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) and sophomore Erin Roos (Wilmette, IL) have been named Second Team All-Ivy in a vote by the eight Ivy League women’s lacrosse coaches, announced by the League Wednesday afternoon. For McGilloway, it marks her third consecutive appearance on the Second Team, while Roos earned All-Ivy honors for the first time in her career. Roos was one of only two sophomores to earn a spot on either the First or Second Team, joining Dartmouth sophomore goalie Kristen Giovanniello. The remaining 20 First and Second Team honorees were all juniors and seniors.
  • Bears Close Out Season at Home against #12 Cornell

    The Bears will close out the 2012 season this afternoon against #12 Cornell. Brown is looking to finish the year on a strong note as it says farewell to the seven members of the Class of 2012: Nancy Baker, Anneke Baran, Natalie Cummins, Isabel Harvey, Julia Keller, Kaela McGilloway, and Margaret Polanin. Fans not in the Providence area can follow the game on live stats (free), live audio (free), or live video ($8).
  • #12 Cornell Defeats Women’s Lacrosse, 16-8

    The Brown women’s lacrosse team (6-8, 1-6) closed out its 2012 season with a 16-8 loss to #12 Cornell (11-4, 5-2) on Saturday afternoon at Stevenson Field. The Bears went ahead, 1-0, in the opening 29 seconds, but Cornell scored nine of the next 10 goals to take a 9-2 lead, and never looked back en route to the victory. Brown was led by freshman Alexandra Crerend (New Canaan, CT), who had three goals, while senior Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) had two goals and an assist.
  • Bears Fall to Penn, 15-6

    The Brown women’s lacrosse team (6-7, 1-5) fell behind, 11-2, to Penn (7-5, 5-1) and couldn’t recover, dropping a 15-6 decision to the Quakers on Saturday at Franklin Field. Trailing, 9-2, at the half and then 11-2 just 3:35 after the break, Brown scored three goals to cut the deficit to 11-5. However, the Bears could get no closer than six goals, 12-6, as Penn scored three goals in the final 4:39 to account for the 15-6 final.
  • Women’s Lacrosse Plays at Penn Saturday

    The Brown women’s lacrosse team (6-6, 1-4) travels to Penn on Saturday, April 21st, to face the Quakers in a 1:00 p.m. Ivy League contest. The game will pit Brown freshman Abby Bunting (Wellesley, MA) against her older sister, Caroline, who is a junior at Penn. The game is also the final away contest for the Bears, who close the 2012 season next Saturday, April 28th, at home against Cornell.
  • Yale Outscores Bears, 7-2, in Final 30 Minutes to Post 9-6 Victory

    The Brown women’s lacrosse team (6-6, 1-4) scored five of the game’s first seven goals, building a 5-2 lead just 1:37 into the second half on a goal by sophomore Bre Hudgins (Syracuse, NY). However, the Yale defense, sparked by a 12-save effort from goalie Erin McMullan, held down the fort for the majority of the remaining 28 minutes, allowing the Bulldogs to come back for a 9-6 win over the Bears on Wednesday afternoon at Reese Stadium.
  • Women’s Lacrosse Begins Three-Game League Stretch Wednesday at Yale

    The Brown women’s lacrosse team (6-5, 1-3) travels to Yale on Wednesday, April 18th, to face the Bulldogs in a 4:00 p.m. Ivy League contest. The game begins a three-game stretch against teams from the Ancient Eight, as the Bears will close out the 2012 regular season at Penn and at home against Cornell.

    The Brown women’s lacrosse team (6-5) utilized a 10-0 run during a 12-minute stretch in the first half to break open a 2-2 game and cruise to a 15-5 win over visiting Sacred Heart (6-8) on Saturday evening at the Berylson Family Fields. The Bears were led by freshman Alexandra Crerend’s (New Canaan, CT) four goals, while senior Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) had three goals and two assists.

    The Bears will close out the non-league portion of their 2012 schedule this evening against Sacred Heart. It is also one of two remaining home games for the 2012 season, as Brown’s final home contest is Saturday, April 28th, against Cornell.

    The Harvard women’s lacrosse team (5-6, 2-2) scored the game’s first four goals in the opening 10 minutes and went on to build an 8-3 lead at the half en route to a 16-8 victory over the Brown women’s lacrosse team (5-5, 1-3) on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Alexandra Crerend (New Canaan, CT) led Brown with three goals, while sophomore Bre Hudgins (Syracuse, NY) and senior Julia Keller (Concord, MA) each had three points.

    Trailing, 8-4, at the start of the second half and then 10-5 six minutes after the break, the Brown women’s lacrosse team (5-4, 1-2) utilized a three-goal run during a stretch of four minutes to come to within a pair of goals, 10-8, against the 11th-ranked Big Green. However, Dartmouth (7-1, 3-0) would score four straight goals during the final eight minutes of play to come away with a 14-8 victory over the Bears at the Berylson Family Fields. Freshman Alexandra Crerend (New Canaan, CT) led Brown with three goals, while seniors Julia Keller (Concord, MA) and Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) both had a goal and an assist.
  • McGilloway Named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week

    Brown senior Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending March 25th. McGilloway was instrumental in helping to lead Brown to a 2-0 week, posting 13 points (5g, 8a) in the Bears’ wins over Bryant, 17-7, and Stanford, 14-9.
  • Brown Runs Past Stanford, 14-9

    On the strength of seven different goal scorers, including four with at least two goals, the Brown women’s lacrosse team (5-3) won its third straight game, a 14-9 decision over visiting Stanford (2-5) on Sunday afternoon at the Berylson Family Fields. Senior Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) led all players with six points, scoring her 100th career goal and assisting five others, while senior Julia Keller (Concord, MA), sophomore Danielle Mastro (Endicott, NY), and freshman Alexandra Crerend (New Canaan, CT) all scored three goals.
  • Brown Returns Home to Host Stanford

    Brown closes out a four-game non-league stretch this afternoon against Stanford. The Bears are 2-1 in the first three games of the set, falling to Holy Cross, 11-10, before beating Quinnipiac (20-15) and Bryant (17-7).

    Senior Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) led 11 different goal scorers with four goals and three assists to help the Brown women’s lacrosse team (4-3) defeat in state rival Bryant (1-6), 17-7, in the third annual battle for the Ocean State Cup. In addition to McGilloway’s seven points, her second consecutive seven-point game, the Bears also received multiple-point outings from freshman Alexandra Crerend (New Canaan, CT), and sophomores Bre Hudgins (Syracuse, NY) and Danielle Mastro (Endicott, NY), who all had two goals and an assist.

    The Bears enter Tuesday's game at Holy Cross following an 18-8 loss to #14 Princeton on Saturday. Brown freshman Julia Carrellas (Middletown, RI) will faceoff against her older sister, Maddie Carrellas, who is a junior on the Holy Cross team. The game is the first of four straight non-league contests, as Brown hosts Quinnipiac on Sunday, March 18th, before facing Bryant on Tuesday March 20th in the Third Annual Ocean State Cup Game, and then hosting Stanford on March 25th.
  • Holy Cross Hands Brown Second Straight Loss

    Holy Cross (3-4) utilized an eight goal run to erase an early, 5-1, deficit, and hand the Brown women’s lacrosse team (2-3) an 11-10 loss in a non-league game on Tuesday afternoon in Worcester. Trailing, 9-7, early in the second half, the Bears mounted a comeback attempt, but could never get any closer than a goal, and the Crusaders were able to hold on for the victory. Brown was led by senior Julia Keller (Concord, MA), who had three goals, including one with 42 seconds left to bring the Bears to within 11-10.

McGilloway scored three goals and added an assist, while Hudgins tallied two goals and assisted a third. Sophomore Grace Healy (Bellport, NY) also scored twice in the win.

    Coming off a 16-3 season-opening loss to #14 Ohio State, the Brown women’s lacrosse team (0-1) opens its 2012 Ivy campaign on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Columbia. The Bears will remain in New York until Sunday, as they face Manhattan at 1:00 on March 4th. Brown and Columbia are two of six Ivy League teams to play their League opener on Saturday, as Yale plays at Dartmouth and Cornell plays at Harvard.
