Hudgins Leads Seven Different Scorers with Six Goals, as Bears Defeat Quinnipiac, 16-11
HAMDEN, CT – Freshman Bre Hudgins (Syracuse, NY) led seven different goal scorers with six goals, while junior Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) had three goals and two assists and junior Julia Keller (Concord, MA) notched two goals and three assists, as the Brown women's lacrosse team (3-1) cruised to a 16-11 win over Quinnipiac (0-3) on Tuesday afternoon at Quinnipiac's Field Hockey and Lacrosse Turf Field.
After Quinnipiac's Laura Iannotti opened the scoring just 1:15 into the game, freshman Erin Roos (Wilmette, IL) scored back-to-back goals for the Bears off assists from Keller spaced 3:09 apart to give Brown a 2-1 lead five minutes into the game.
Ionnotti netted her second of the day at the 8:30 mark to tie the score at 2-2 and then a score by Sarah Allen just 23 seconds later, gave the Bobcats a 3-2 lead 8:53 into the game.
Junior Nancy Baker (Upper Arlington, OH) answered for the Bears 1:24 later, sparking a 7-0 Brown run over the next eight minutes, which was capped on a goal by freshman Grace Healy (Bellport, NY) with 11:10 left before halftime.
The Bobcats went on a run of their own, scoring three times in a span of 2:35 to come to within 9-6, but goals by senior Alexa Caldwell (Middletown, DE) and Hudgins exactly one minute apart in the final two minutes of the half gave Brown an 11-6 lead at the break.
Neither team scored in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, as Quinnipiac's Devon Gibney halted the scoring drought with 18:56 left to play, cutting Brown's lead to 11-7.
Brown would score the next five goals, including three by Hudgins, in a span of eight minutes, with Hudgins' sixth of the day giving the Bears a 16-7 lead with 8:03 left.
The Bobcats closed out the game with four goals in the last six minutes to account for the 16-11 final.
Sophomore Sidney Jacobs (Blue Bell, PA) helped to lead Brown's defense with two ground balls and one caused turnover, while Roos and Caldwell both had two caused turnovers. Healy led all players with 10 draw controls.
Brown continues action on Saturday, March 12th, when it travels to Princeton to face the Tigers in a 1:00 p.m. Ivy League contest.
