PROVIDENCE, RI – Junior Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) has been named co-Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending March 6, 2011. The Bears leading scorer with 14 points on the season and nine points this week, McGilloway helped lead the Bears to a 1-1 record last week with a win over Columbia in their 2011 Ivy Opener.
Against the Lions, McGilloway led Brown with 7 points (3g, 4a), including the game-winner, after scoring two goals against Boston University earlier in the week. On Tuesday against the Terriers, McGilloway scored two of Brown's three first half goals. In the Ivy opener against Columbia, McGilloway's goals all came in the first half, helping Brown to an 8-2 lead with her third goal of the day with nine minutes left in the half. She also had two first-half assists against the Lions, assisting goals that both times answered a Columbia score. In the second half, McGilloway assisted back-to-back Brown goals just 54 seconds apart, scored during a 5-0 Brown run, which gave the Bears a 13-3 lead with 22 minutes left. Her four assists helped her move into 10th all-time at Brown for career assists (32), while she also added three ground balls.
McGilloway and the rest of the Bears resume action tomorrow, Tuesday, March 8th, when they travel to Quinnipiac to face the Bobcats in a 2:30 p.m. contest. Brown then returns to Ivy competition this Saturday, March 12th, when it travels to Princeton for a 1:00 p.m. game.
