THE GAME: The Bears enter Tuesday's home opening game against BU following a decisive, 21-8, win over Sacred Heart in their season opener on Saturday. It is Brown's second straight non-league game before opening Ivy League play on Saturday afternoon against Columbia.
LAST TIME OUT: In Saturday's win over Sacred Heart, Kaela McGilloway '12 and Bre Hudgins '14 led nine different goal scorers with five goals each, while Paris Waterman '11 scored three times and assisted a fourth goal, and Lindsay Minges '13 and Grace Healy '14 each had two with Minges also tallying one assist. Julia Keller '12 led the Bears with three assists, while Danielle Mastro '14 had a pair of assists to go along with her first career goal for a three-point day. Lucinda Caldwell '14 also scored her first career goal, while Nancy Baker '12 (1g, 1a) and Alexa Caldwell '11 (1g) also contributed in the scoring. Abbey Van Horne '14 led the Bears on defense with two caused turnovers, one ground ball, one draw control and no turnovers. In net, Isabel Harvey '12 recorded four saves on 10 shots in the opening 43 minutes, while Maggie Suprey '11 (2 saves, 2GA) and Brienne Donovan '13 (1 save, 0GA) combined to close out the game.
ALL-TIME VS. BOSTON UNIVERSITY: Brown is 9-5 all-time against the Terriers, after last year's 9-5 loss in Boston. Brown's last victory over Boston University came in 2002 when the Bears posted a 9-7 win on the strength of three goals from Katie Russell '04. Also scoring multiple goals were Bekah Rottenberg '03 and Christine Anneberg '04, while Courtney Johnson '03 had a pair of assists. Brown's defense held BU off the scoreboard for 26 minutes and got 22 saves from Niki Caggiano '02 in the win.
LAST YEAR VS. BOSTON UNIVERSITY: In the 2010 contest, the Terriers erased a 4-3 halftime deficit with six straight goals in the second half to grab a 9-4 lead with 7:49 to play. After a BU score to open the game at 7:33, Brown got back-to-back unssisted goals from Paris Waterman '11 and Bethany Buzzell '10 five minutes apart to give the Bears a 2-1 lead at the 15:34 mark. BU answered with two goals, but Kara Kelly '10 and Alexa Caldwell '11 connected on free position shots in the final 1:03 of the half to give Brown a 4-3 lead at the break. Kaela McGilloway '12 had the final goal, off an assist by Waterman, with 2:46 left to account for the final scoring. Isabel Harvey '12 recorded nine saves in net, while Kelly, McGilloway and Sidney Jacobs '13 each had a team-high two caused turnovers.
TUESDAY'S OPPONENT: The Terriers enter today's game following a 13-12 loss to UMass in their season opener. Erica Baumgartner '11 led the way with 5 points (1g, 4a), while Molly Swain '12 added 4 points (2g, 2a). Hannah Frey '12 and Rachel Collins '11 both had a team-high three goals. Collins also led the way with four draw controls, while Kate Cipolletti '11 had two caused turnovers and Courtney Burd '11 had two ground balls to lead the team. Kim Elsworth '13 earned the start in net and stopped five of 18 shots in 60 minutes.
