PROVIDENCE, RI – Brown University head women's lacrosse coach Keely McDonald '00 has announced the Bears' schedule for the upcoming season. Highlighting the 15-game schedule are nine home contests, four of which are against teams from the Ancient Eight.
In addition to the four League games, against Columbia, Harvard, Penn and Yale, Brown will also host teams from five different conferences, including the ACC (Duke), America East (BU), MPSF (St. Mary's), Northeast (Bryant), and Patriot League (Holy Cross).
After a pair of scrimmages in February, including the annual alumni scrimmage slated for February 5th, Brown officially opens its schedule on Saturday February 26th with an 11:30 am contest at Sacred Heart. Brown hosts Boston University in its home opener on Tuesday, March 1st, and then welcomes Columbia to campus on Saturday, March 5th for its 2011 Ivy opener.
Games at Quinnipiac and Princeton precede a pair of non-league home games against Holy Cross and Bryant, as Brown will look to retain possession of the Ocean State Cup on Sunday, March 20th against the Bulldogs. The Bears then travel across the country to face Stanford on March 29th, before returning home and then traveling to Dartmouth on April 2nd.
After the hectic pace set during the month of March, playing two games a week, including five on the road, the Bears will close out their 2011 season by playing five of their last six games in Providence.
Harvard and Duke come to Brown for a Friday-Sunday series April 8th and 10th. After a trip to Ithaca to face Cornell on April 15th, the Bears return home to host St. Mary's, Penn, and Yale.
After narrowly missing the Inaugural Ivy League Tournament last season, the Bears will look to finish in the top half of the League in 2011 for a chance to play for the Ivy Championship and the League's automatic berth for the NCAA Tournament.
