Women's Ice Hockey Opens Up Conference Play This Weekend

Providence, RI - The Bears (1-1-0, 0-0-0) will open up their conference play this weekend as they travel to Colgate and Cornell to take on the Raiders on Friday, November 4 at 7:00 PM and then travel to Ithaca to take on the Big Red Saturday, November 5 at 4:00 PM.

This season will mark the third time in the past four seasons the Bears have opened conference play with the Raiders and Big Red. The Bears currently have a 31-26-7 record when facing off with the Big Red. Cornell and Brown have been playing each other since February 25, 1972, having the Bears come out victorious 2-1. Since their 1997-98 3-0, loss to the Big Red, the Bears have take the past 16 meetings outscoring Cornell 76-22, including four shutouts.

Against the Raiders, Brown has won seven of the eight meetings only falling to Colgate, 2-1 last season. The Bears have outscored the Raiders 27-5 and have held the Colgate offense to no more then two goals in a game. The two squads met for the first time on November 4, 2001 where Brown pulled out a 5-0 win.

Sophomore Hayley Moore has been a force in the offensive zone for the Bears in their two games this season, netting two goals and dishing out an assist in the home and home series split with the #5 Wildcats. On the defensive side both sophomore goalies Stacy Silverman (Wakefield, MA) and O'Hara Shipe (Anchorage, AK) are looking strong as they enter their second season. Shipe earned ECACHL Goalie of the Week Honors for her 21 saves performance in the 3-2 victory over UNH. Shipe and the Bear defense held the high powered UNH offense to only two goals, their lowest goal total of the season in victory on Sunday.
