Women's Ice Hockey Picked Fifth In Preseason ECAC Coaches' Poll

Sept. 22, 2003

ALBANY, NY - The Brown women's ice hockey team has been picked fifth in the annual preseason ECAC Coaches' poll, announced today at the ECAC media day, held at Pepsi Arena. In addition, Brown junior defender Amy McLaughlin (Berlin, MA) was named to the preseason All-Conference squad.

The Bears, who were picked to finish third last season, ended the 2002-2003 season in fifth place. Brown advanced to the ECAC Championship Tournament, upsetting fourth-seeded St. Lawrence in three games in the quarterfinals.

McLaughlin, going into her junior year, is coming off an impressive sophomore season in which she tallied 12 points (4g, 8a) in 16 conference games. The total was good enough to finish tied for fifth among defenders in the ECAC. McLaughlin provided a solid defensive core for the Bears, helping the team past St. Lawrence in 2003 ECAC Quarterfinals.

Brown, which posted a 14-14-4 record last year, opens its 2003-2004 season on Friday, November 7, 2003 when it hosts Maine at 7:00 p.m. at the Pollard Family Rink at Meehan Auditorium.
