Post-Season Honors Pile Up for Brown Women's Ice Hockey
March 25, 2002
At the conclusion of the NCAA Frozen Four Championship Game, seniors Kristy Zamora and Meredith Ostrander were honored as Zamora was named the tournament's MVP, and Ostrander earned All-Tournament honors.
Kristy Zamora (Oshawa, Ontario) recently was named to the American Hockey Coaches Association's Second team All American. Zamora had a tremendous season, totaling 35 goals and 21 assists for 56 points. She finishes her career with 72-48-120 in 127 games played. Her point total places her 9th on Brown's all time leading scorer list. Zamora was also a First Team All ECAC selection and was the Ivy League Co-Player of the Year.
Meredith Ostrander (Prescott, Ontario) completed her career with totals of 30-50-80 in 123 games played. This season, Head Coach Digit Murphy moved behind the blue line to help anchor the Brown defense. She proved to be an immediate impact, and provided a solid presence on the ice. She earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy this season, and was also named to the All-Tournament Team at this year's ECAC Championship.
Head Coach Digit Murphy whose career record at Brown stands at 229-89-28 is one of nine finalists for the American Hockey Coaches Association Women's Hockey Coach of the Year. The finalists are comprised of the top vote-getters in conference Coach of the Year balloting, as well as coaches who take their teams to the "Frozen Four." This award, which was established in 1998, was captured last year by Paul Flanagan of St. Lawrence. The 2002 Women's Ice Hockey University Division Coach of the Year Award will be represented during the annual AHCA Convention in Naples, FL on Saturday April 27.
