Brown freshman Karen Thatcher (Franklin, MA) was named the ECAC Women's Hockey Rookie of the Week for the week of Mar. 3 after leading Brown to a weekend sweep of Colgate and Cornell with six points. In the Bears 9-1 victory over the Big Red, Thatcher recorded a goal and a team-high four assists. She tallied her tenth goal of the season in Brown's 4-0 shutout over Colgate as well.
Thatcher is second on the team with ten goals and 20 assists for 30 points in 28 games, which also ranks her second in the ECAC and tenth in the nation in points per game among freshmen. She is also tied for fifth in the nation in shorthanded goals and tenth in the ECAC in assists per game. Thatcher has recorded at least one point in six of the Bears last eight games.
Thatcher along with the rest of the Bears will travel to St. Lawrence for the start of the ECAC Quarterfinals on Friday. The two teams will play a best of two-of-three game series. Game times will be 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and if necessary, 4 p.m. on Sunday. Brown defeated St. Lawrence 4-3 during the regular season back on Jan. 17 before tying the Saints 5-5 the following day. Last season the Bears were victorious over St. Lawrence in the semifinal round of the ECAC JPMorgan Chase Hockey Championship.
