Brown Women's Ice Hockey falls to Northeastern, 2-1
Dec. 8, 2001
Coming off last Sunday's, 4-2 victory at St. Lawrence, the Bears hoped to add on to last weekend's win, which snapped a four-game winless streak. Brown was unable to come up with a victory on Saturday afternoon against Northeastern in Boston, MA.
Both teams skated to a scoreless first period, where the Huskies (14-1-0) out shot Brown 7-4.
In the second period, Northeastern scored just 1:41 into the period, as Lindsay Ball tallied her 5th goal of the season. Brooke White made the score 2-0 at the 11:50 of the second stanza.
Brown got on the board late in the second period, when Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) netted her fifth goal of the season, making the score 2-1. Link's goal came with only four seconds remaining in the period, as she received the puck from junior Courtney Johnson (Falmouth, MA), and slid it past Husky goaltender, Chanda Gunn.
The Bears entered the final period with a spark, which resulted from Link's late goal. Despite totaling eight shots in the period, the Bears could not tally another goal, and the game ended in a score of 2-1, in favor of Northeastern.
Sophomore Katie Germain (Sarnia, ONT) stopped 27 shots on the afternoon.
Brown falls to 4-5-1 overall and 4-3-0 in the ECAC. The Bears return to the ice on Sunday December 9 for a 2:00pm contest at Providence College.
