Jessica Link Earns Her Second Hat Trick To Lead the Bears to Victory

Dec. 6, 2003

The Brown University women's ice hockey team (5-4-0, 2-0-0) topped Cornell (2-7-1, 0-6-0), 8-1 Saturday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium. Junior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) tallied her second hat trick of her career to lead the Bears in their second ECAC and first Ivy League match-ups of the season.

Brown came out on fire coming off their first ECAC win over Colgate last night. They got on the board early in the first taking advantage of a 5x3 power play just five minutes into the game. Junior Amy McLaughlin (Berlin, MA) notched her second goal of the season with Krissy McManus (Dedham, MA) tallying the assist. Ten minutes later the Bears took advantage of another power play opportunity when sophomore Ashlee Drover (Bay Roberts, NF) sent a shot flying and junior Kerry Nugent (Andover, MA) tipped it in on the rebound. Sophomore Margaret Ramsay (Toronto, ONT) also had an assist on the play. Brown took a 3-0 lead at 17:14 with a goal from Ramsay, her first of the season. Nugent and junior Katie Guay (Westfield, MA) had assists on the play.

Brown held onto the momentum in the second period scoring five goals. The first goal of the period was shot flying past the Colgate goalie at 3:35 by junior Jessica Link. Freshman Eliza Lane tallied her first assist of the season on the play. Colgate tried to close the gap on the Bears and scored their first goal of the day at 6:47. However, Brown answered back just over a minute later. McManus took it top shelf off a pass from sophomore Keaton Zucker (Gilford, NH). At 13:03, the Bears took a 6-1 lead off Ramsay's second goal of the day. Nugent and Guay tallied the assists. Link scored her second and third goal of the day at 16:59 and 19:25 to give the Bears an 8-1 advantage going into the third period. Freshman Krystal Strassman (Madison, WI) had assists on both goals and Drover earned her second assist on the day on the second goal by Link.

Brown stayed in control and finished off their two-game home stand strong. They dominated in face-offs, winning 35. The Bears out-shot the Big Red 94-23.
