Women's Hockey Splits Overtime Thriller With Northeastern, 2-2

Providence, RI - The Brown women's hockey team split an overtime thriller with Northeastern Friday night at Meehan Auditorium, 2-2. With three seconds remaining in regulation, the Huskies tied the game 2-2. Neither team scored in overtime, ending the game in a 2-2 deadlock. The tie is the Bears third of the season as they now stand at 4-4-3 overall.
Northeastern got on the board first. Senior Kim Greene scored inside the net from fellow senior Pamela Pachal. The goal ties Greene for the team lead in scoring with 13 points. Brown out-shot the Huskies 13-11 in the period.
The Bears bounced back and took a 2-1 advantage by the end of the second period. Northeastern goalie Chandra Gunn played a solid first half of the period with the Bears getting several shots off. Brown finally capitalized in the later half of the period, scoring goals at the 14:05 and 18:01 mark. The Bears first goal came when junior Katie Lafleur skated hard towards the net and knocked one past Gunn from the inside. Freshman Karen Thatcher picked up an assist on the play.
Senior Courtney Johnson tallied her fifth goal of the season, slipping the puck between Gunn's legs after wrapping around the net to give the Bears a 2-1 lead. Lafleur recorded her second point of the night on the play, her ninth of the season. Senior Kim Insalaco also earned an assist on the play. Overall Brown out-shot Northeastern 17-9 in the second.
With Northeastern trailing by one with 30 seconds remaining in the game, the Huskies took Gunn out of net to take a 6x5 advantage. With three seconds left, Michelle Lorion scored the game-tying goal for the Huskies in a scramble in front of the net. Theresa Ella and Pachal picked up assists on the play.
Overall, Brown out-shot Northeastern 48-30. Senior goalkeeper Pam Dreyer recorded 28 saves while Gunn compiled 46.
Brown continues action tomorrow, Saturday Dec. 7 at 3:00 p.m. against Mercyhurst at Meehan Auditorium.
