Schenectady, NY- - The women's ice hockey team (8-4-0, 5-3-0) extended their winning streak to three with a 5-0, shutout victory against Union this evening in Schenectady, NY. Senior Amy McLaughlin (Berlin, MA) recorded two goals and an assist in tonight's victory.
The Bears got an early one-goal lead when sophomore Kathryn Moos (Wayzata, MN) put in her fourth goal of the season. Junior Lindsey Glennon (Exter, NH) passed the puck cross-ice to McLaughlin at the point. McLaughlin fired a shot at the Dutchwomen's net, where Moos redirected the shot past goaltender Amanda Hanson at the 17:41 mark. With less then two minutes remaining in the period, Glennon dumped the puck behind the net to freshman Hayley Moore (Wakefield, MA). Moore put the puck in front of Union's crease, where senior Katie Guay (Westfield, MA) drove in her second goal of the season, giving Brown a two-goal lead going into the first intermission.
With the Bears short handed late in the second period, senior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) blocked a shot and at Brown's blueline, and took it the distance sliding the puck inside the left post to extend the Bear's lead to three. Freshman O'Hara Shipe (Anchorage, AK) kept the Dutchwomen off the board for two periods recording five saves before being relieved by sophomore Marie-Pier Desbiens (Bolton-EST, QC) in net for Brown.
McLaughlin exploded offensively in the third period, cashing in on two goals to extend the Bear lead to five. The Dutchwomen had a three on five opportunity with less then eight minutes remaining in the game, but couldn't get anything going against an aggressive Bear defense. Desbiens preserved the shutout victory recording two saves between the pipes in the final period.
