Canton, NY - After picking up its first win and tie of the season last weekend, the women's ice hockey team (1-10-1, 0-8-0) was brought back down to earth by St. Lawrence (11-6-1, 6-3-0) Friday night, falling 8-0. The Saints scored four goals in the first period and closed with three in the third to hand the Bears a loss to open their weekend road trip in upstate New York.

Things got off to a poor start for Brown, as the Saints took a 1-0 lead just 58 seconds into the game. A St. Lawrence shot caromed off a Saints player to senior forward Chelsea Grills, who lifted one over Brown junior goaltender O'Hara Shipe (Anchorage, AK), who had reacted to the initial shot and was out of position. The hosts added three more to their total in the final 5:03 of the period.

The Saints then ended Shipe's night with another goal 2:26 into the second period, this one scored by freshman Courtney Sawchuk. Junior Stacy Silverman (Wakefield, MA) entered, making nine stops to hold the Saints scoreless for the rest of the second. She gave up three goals in the third, but on the second, a teammate fell on top of her, giving St. Lawrence sophomore Lisa Batchelor an open net for an easy goal. Silverman stopped 19 total shots in just under two periods of work.

The team will try to rebound on Saturday against Clarkson (9-6-2, 4-4-1). The puck drops at 4 p.m.
