Box Score

Providence, RI - Although able to take 1-0 and 2-1 leads in the first period, the Brown women's ice hockey team (1-9-1, 1-6-1 ECAC Hockey) was unable to keep up with #5 St. Lawrence (10-3-0, 6-1-0 ECAC Hockey) on Friday night, falling 6-2 at Meehan Auditorium. Senior captain Hayley Moore (Wakefield, MA) had a goal and an assist, moving into sole possession of 14th place all-time at Brown with 110 career points, but St. Lawrence's five power-play goals on nine chances proved to be the difference.

The Bears opened the scoring at 11:03 in the first period on a power play. Controlling the puck in the St. Lawrence zone, Moore skated behind the net to goaltender Maxie Weisz's left. She passed behind the net to sophomore Sasha Van Muyen (Orillia, ONT), who found senior captain Rylee Olewinski (Burr Ridge, IL) in the slot. Olewinski slipped a wrist shot past Weisz for her second goal of the year.

The Saints tied the game at 17:46, as sophomore Tara Akstull found senior Chelsea Grills in front for a quick power-play strike. However, the Bears struck again quickly, as Moore's shot from just inside the blue line just 24 seconds later got by Weisz. The Bears' two goals were the first two allowed by Weisz this year in three contests.

Brown was unable to take a lead into the intermission, as junior Carson Duggan tipped a shot by senior Annie Guay on another power play for the first of her three goals with 38 seconds remaining in the frame. Grills and Duggan scored their second goals of the evening in the second period, the latter being the Saints' lone even strength goal, to put the Saints out in front. Duggan and junior Alison Domenico added power-play tallies in the third to put the game out of reach, as St. Lawrence showed why it has the top scoring offense in the nation.

For St. Lawrence, senior Sabrina Harbec and Guay both had three assists, with Grills adding an assist for her third point of the game on Domenico's goal. Brown junior Nicole Stock (Buffalo Grove, IL) made 25 saves in the loss, while Weisz finished the night with 18 saves, including 11 in the third period.

On Saturday, the Bears will play host to the Golden Knights of Clarkson University (11-4-2, 4-3-0 ECAC Hockey) at 4 p.m.
