Women's Hockey Downs UNH 5-2

Nov. 25, 2003

The Brown Women's Hockey team beat the University of New Hampshire 5-2 this evening in a hard fought game. The Bears were led by freshman Kathryn Moos (Wayzata, MN) who had two goals in the game. Freshman Krystal Strassman (Madison, WI) and junior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) also a goal and an assist each.

Brown opened up the game with a goal from Krystal Strassman at 9:05. Junior Kerry Nugent (Andover, MA) set up junior Katie Guay (Westfield, MA), who shot and Strassman picked up the rebound and placed it in the back of the net. UNH found a break in Brown's intensity and was able to get a power-play goal at 12:07 of the first half. The Bears did not let up, however, and came back a minute and five seconds later to score their second goal of the night at 13:12. Sophomore Keaton Zucker (Gilford, NH) put in a rebound off of a hard wrist-shot from Link. Brown carried their one goal lead into the second period.

Starting the second period, Katie Guay and sophomore Ashlee Drover (Bay Roberts, NF) were instrumental in keeping the puck in UNH's defensive end. Sophomore Myria Heinhuis (Chatham, ONT) and Marguerite McDonald stifled UNH's attack numerous times allowing the Bears to score their third goal of the night at 11:00. Kathryn Moos tipped a shot from Krystal Strassman and placed it top-shelf over a sprawling UNH goalie. The Bears did not let up and scored their fourth goal of the night off a powerful shot from Jessica Link. Junior Krissy McManus (Dedham, MA) and Myria Heinhuis had the assists on that goal.

The third period saw UNH gain control of the face-off and score: 52seconds into the period. Brown answered back, however, at 7:59 off another goal by Moos, who tipped in a pass from Amy McLaughlin and Krystal Strassman. Brown held onto their lead and UNH was unable to retaliate as starting goalie senior Katie Germain (Sarnia, ONT) ended the game with 29 saves on the evening. Brown ended taking 31 shots on UNH.

The Bears continue action Saturday, Nov. 29th at 2pm when they take on Providence College for the 9th annual Mayor's Cup at Providence College.
