Providence, RI - Sophomore Christine Holdredge (Ashley Falls, MA) scored what proved to be the game winner with 9:10 left in the second period to give Brown (5-3-0, 4-2-0) a 2-0, lead over the Golden Knights of Clarkson (4-3-3, 2-1-0), this evening at the Meehan Auditorium.
After a scoreless first period the Bears got it started offensively, scoring two goals eight seconds apart mid-way through the second. Sophomore Kathryn Moos (Wayzata, MN) tallied her third goal of the season with nine minutes left in the period to give Brown the 1-0 lead. Moos received a pass from senior Kerry Nugent (Andover, MA) down low and slipped the puck past Clarkson's goalie Kira McDonald, for the early lead. Eight seconds later Holdredge scored the game-winning goal, putting the game out of reach for the Golden Knights. Freshman Rylee Olewinski (Burr Ridge, IL) won the draw and gave the puck to senior Amy McLaughlin (Berlin, MA). McLaughlin took the puck into Clarkson's zone and fed a pass to Holdredge who one timed the puck in for the Bears second goal.
The Golden Knights would cut the lead to one with less then ten minutes remaining in the game. But, that was as close as they were going to get as freshmen O'Hara Shipe (Anchorage, AK) controlled the crease for the Bears making 14 saves in her third win this season.
The Bears will return to action Saturday, November 20, when they will face #6 St. Lawrence for an ECACHL conference face-off at 4:00 pm. Following tomorrow's game the community is invited to skate around with the Bears. At that time the players will be able to take pictures and sign autographs for fans.
