Brown Women's Ice Hockey Drops 8-1 to # 1 Minnesota

The Brown University women's ice hockey team dropped its second game in a row (1-3-0, 0-0-0) to #1 Minnesota (8-0-0), 8-1, at Meehan Auditorium on Sunday afternoon.

The Gophers came out strong in the first period scoring their first goal just 47 seconds into the game. They tacked on three more goals, giving themselves a 4-0 lead at the end of the first.

Both teams were quiet in the first half of the second period. However, the Gophers came alive and scored three goals within five minutes of play. Natalie Darwitz added her third goal of the game at 17:35 to give Minnesota a 7-0 lead.

Krissy Wendell added the Gophers eighth goal of the game 26 seconds into the third period on a power play. Brown's only goal of the game was scored with a minute left in the third by junior Katie Guay (Westfield, MA). Junior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) and freshman Christine Holdredge (Ashley Falls, MA) had assists on the play.

Senior Katie Germain (Sarnia, ONT) made eight saves in the first period for the Bears. She was relieved by freshman goaltender Marie-Pier Desbiens (Bolton-Est, QC), who made her college debut at the start of the second period. She had 15 saves in 40 minutes of play.

Brown returns to action this Tuesday when it faces Quinnipiac in Hamden, CT at 7:00 p.m.
