Nov. 9, 2002

Burlington, VT - The women's hockey team picked up its first ECAC win of the season with a 3-0 shutout over Vermont Saturday evening. The Bears notched all three of their goals in the first period with three different players scoring, including two freshmen. The win improves the Bears to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the ECAC. Brown has now outscored the Catamounts 15-0 all-time, with 9-0 and 3-0 shutouts last season, the two teams first season of play against each other.

Freshman Karen Thatcher (Franklin, MA) got the Bears on the board three minutes into the game, scoring her first collegiate goal on a pass from sophomore Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY), which proved to be the game-winner. Brown took a 2-0 lead at the 13:37 mark of the first period when Link and Thatcher teamed up with junior Kerry Nugent (Andover, MA) for her second goal of the season. Freshman Ashlee Drover (Bay Roberts, NF) netted her first collegiate goal just 19 seconds later to give Brown a decisive 3-0 lead.

Vermont's Tiffany Hayes came in to replace Kami Cote in goal after Brown's three goals and held the Bears scoreless for the rest of the game, recording 52 saves. Brown goalkeeper, senior Pam Dreyer recorded her 12th career shutout, making 13 saves.

Brown continues action on Saturday Nov. 16 when it travels to Minnesota for a 2:05 p.m. CT game.
