Providence, RI - The Brown women's ice hockey team (3-1-0, 2-0-0) won its second straight game on Saturday afternoon, earning a 2-0 victory over Colgate in ECACHL action.
After an even start to the contest, featuring back-and-forth action, senior Krissy McManus (Dedham, MA) gave the Bears a 1-0 lead with her third goal of the year at 14:11 of the first. With the Bears on the power-play, senior Amy McLaughlin (Berlin, MA) rifled a shot from the blueline that McManus tipped in from the edge of the crease. Senior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) also earned an assist on the goal.
After a scoreless second period, senior Kerry Nugent (Andover, MA) increased the Bears' lead to 2-0 with her second goal of the year early in the third. Senior Katie Guay (Westfield, MA) connected with Nugent, who beat her defender and fired the shot into the back of the net at 5:20 of the third.
The Brown defense stood strong for the remainder of the game, and held off the late attack by the Raiders for the 2-0 win.
The freshmen goaltending duo of O'Hara Shipe (Anchorage, AK) and Stacy Silverman (Wakefield, MA) earned the combined shutout with 10 saves each in net. Shipe earned the win with 10 saves in 30:17, while Silverman came in in relief and stopped all 10 shots she faced in the final 29:43.
The Bears continue action on Friday, November 12 when they travel to Princeton for a 7:00 p.m. ECACHL and Ivy League contest against the Tigers.
