Women's Ice Hockey Topple Cornell, 5-0 in Season Opener

Nov. 5, 2001

Both teams began the contest with a consistency of physical play, which lasted throughout the first period. The second stanza was more of the same, high pressure Bear attack, combined with physical play from both sides.

The Bears finally broke the scoring drought at the 4:01 mark of the second period, when freshman Katie Guay (Westfield, MA) netted her first collegiate goal. Fellow freshman Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) followed with a goal of her own, sliding the disc in the upper right corner of the net. Time of the goal was 8:52.

Sophomore Sarah Crowley (Dover, MA) made the score 3-0, when she finished off a breakaway beating Cornell goaltender, Liz Connelly at the 10:31 point. Brown's second period scoring spree ended on a goal by freshman Amy McLaughlin (Berlin, MA) with seven minutes left in the second period.

In the final period of the game, sophomore Marguerite McDonald netted her first goal in 2001, finishing a shot from the left side of the goal, making the final score of the game 5-0.

The Bears return to action Sunday afternoon for a 4:00pm contest against Colgate in Hamilton, NY.
