Brown Shut Out By Yale in Home Opener, 3-0
Nov. 3, 2007
Providence, RI - In its 2007-08 home opener on Saturday afternoon, the Brown women's hockey team (1-2-0, 1-2-0 ECACH) lost to Yale (2-0-1, 2-0-1 ECACH), 3-0. After gaining a 1-0 advantage in the first period, the Bulldogs took advantage of two power plays, one a five-on-three, to increase their lead and take the victory.
Yale opened the scoring at 12:39. Sophomore Mandi Schwartz scored her first goal of the season, setting up in front and slipping the puck past Brown goalie Nicole Stock (Buffalo Grove, IL), off assists from juniors Helen Resor and Sarah Tittman.
The Elis doubled the lead less than one minute into the second. On a power play thanks to a Brown protocol violation before the start of the period, freshman Bray Ketchum found sophomore Denise Soesilo in the slot, with the German winger finishing.
The Bears' best chance to stage a comeback came over the end of the second period and beginning of the third. The Bulldogs took penalties 24 seconds apart, at 18:26 and 18:50 of the second, giving Brown 1:36 of a five-on-three. However, despite several scoring opportunities in both the second and third periods on that power play, the Bears could not break through. Not too long after, Soesilo took advantage of a Yale five-on-three, again off a helper from Ketchum, to provide the final 3-0 score.
Stock was solid in defeat, stopping a game-high 34 shots, many of which were difficult stops. Yale freshman Jackee Snikeris made 31 saves to go to 2-0-0 on the season.
Brown will try to rebound on Sunday, when the team travels to Storrs for a showdown with #8 Connecticut. Puck drops at 1 p.m.
