Durham, NH - The women's ice hockey team (0-1-0) fell to #5 New Hampshire 5-1, in their opening game of the season, at the Whittemore Center in Durham, NH. Sophomore goalie Stacy Silverman (Wakefield, MA) was under a heavy barrage of shots all evening, as the Wildcats out shot the Bears 41-12.
Brown had trouble getting anything going offensively as only getting off one shot in the opening period. UNH cashed in on their first power play opportunity of the evening with under ten minutes remaining in the opening frame for the early 1-0 lead. Brown started to get going off offensively in the second, ripping off eight shots, led by senior Myria Heinhuis (Chatham, ONT) who finished the game with five shots.
The Wildcats exploded in the third, recording three goals to push their lead to 5-0. Sophomore Hayley Moore (Wakefield, MA) broke-up the Wildcat's shut out, netting an unassisted power play goal with 1:51 remaining in the game. Silverman finished the night with 36 saves in the net for Brown..
The Bears look to rebound on Sunday, October 30 when they host UNH in the final game of the home and home series with the Wildcats, having the puck drop at 2:00 PM in Meehan Auditorium.
