Oct. 23, 2004

Providence, RI - The Brown women's ice hockey team (1-0) defeated the East Coast Wizards, 3-0 this evening at the Meehan Auditorium in a pre-season exhibition game. Sophomore Marie-Pier Desbiens (Bolton-Est, QC), freshman Stacy Silverman (Wakefield, MA) and freshman O'Hara Shipe (Anchorage, AK) split time between the pipes, recording the shut out for Bruno.

Seven minutes into the first period, the Bears opened up their scoring on a power play goal by senior Kerry Nugent (Andover, MA). Nugent tipped a shot from junior Lindsey Glennon (Exter, NH) passed the Wizards goalie to get the Bears on the board. Four minutes later, junior Myria Heinhuis (Chatham, ONT) connected with a hard slap shot from the point to give Bruno a two goal lead.

With 6:03 left in the second period Glennon slid a shot from junior Margaret Ramsay (Toronto, ONT) past East Coast's goalie Chanda Gunn for Brown's second power play goal of the game. The Bears out shot the Wizards 35 to 20 and goalies Desbiens, Shipe and Silverman stood strong in net saving all 20 shots to preserve the shut out and the win.

Brown will open up their 2004-2005 season Friday, October 29, when they will travel to Orono, ME, for a 7:00 face off against the University of Maine Black Bears.
