Bears Close Out Season with 2-1 Over-Time Loss to Harvard

March 20, 2004

The Brown University women's ice hockey team (18-11-2, 12-5-1) dropped to Harvard (21-11-2, 12-6-0), 2-1 in double overtime Saturday afternoon in the ECAC semifinals.

Harvard took a 1-0 lead early in the game. Senior goaltender Katie Germain (Sarnia, ONT) made the initial save, but was caught out of the net on the rebounded shot by Harvard's Angela Ruggiero just under 5 minutes into the period.

Brown kept up the intensity and tied the game 1-1 at the 17:05 mark. Junior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) set up sophomore Keaton Zucker (Gilford, NH) at the point to notch her 14th goal of the season.

The Bears out-shot the Crimson 11-10 in the second and had a few close scoring opportunities in front of the net. However, both teams remained scoreless and headed into the second intermission still tied at 1-1.

Harvard jumped all over Brown on the first face-off in the third, but Germain stayed solid in net to keep the Crimson from taking the lead.

Both Harvard and Brown had close scoring opportunities at the 6:10 and 6:18 marks with the Bears' Lindsey Glennon sending a puck off the left post and the Crimson answering back with a hard shot off the right post at 6:18.

However, neither team could net the game winner in regulation. The Bears and Crimson were set to meet in over-time for the second time this season.

Both teams remained scoreless in the first 20-minute overtime, but Harvard netted the game-winner 5:30 into the second over-time.

In net, Germain (Sarnia, ONT) tallied 41 saves for the Bears.
