Second Period Explosion Leads Bears to 7-0 Win, and Spot in ECAC Semifinals

March 9, 2002

Behind a solid 1st period performance in net, by sophomore goaltender, Nicolette Franck, the Yale Bulldogs were able to stop Brown's 23 shot output in the opening period.

Freshman Katie Guay (Westfield, MA) broke the scoring drought at the 4:38 mark of the 2nd period, sliding in a loose puck to tally her 9th goal of the season. Senior Meredith Ostrander (Prescott, Ontario) and sophomore Marguerite McDonald (Richboro, PA) assisted on the goal. Just under two minutes later, McDonald gave the Bears a 2-0 lead at the 6:31 mark. Guay and Ostrander got the helpers on that goal.

At the 8:08 mark of the 2nd, senior Kristy Zamora (Oshawa, Ontario) netted Brown's third goal of the game, when she finished a rebound shot by Jessica Link. Junior Courtney Johnson (Falmouth, MA) made the score 4-0, scoring on the power play at 10:43 of the 2nd. Junior Cassie Turner (Campbellford, Ontario) tallied an unassisted goal at 16:53, making the score 5-0 going into the 2nd intermission.

In the third period, Brown tallied two goals in the final period. First Kim Insalaco (Rochester, NY) scored at the 2:13 mark of the period, with sophomore Krissy McManus (Dedham, MA) and Johnson assisting. Brown's final goal came from Meredith Ostrander, who recorded her third point of the night when she tipped in a rebound shot by Zamora at 15:37 of the final stanza.

Sophomore Katie Germain (Sarnia, Ontario) played in net for Brown and recorded seven saves on the night.

Brown improves to 22-7-2 overall and will compete at Dartmouth College next weekend in the semifinal and final round of the ECAC North League tournament. The semifinal double header will begin at 1:00pm on Saturday March 16, with the finals taking place on Sunday, with a face-off time set for 12:00pm.
