Box Score

Canton, NY - - In a physical women's ice hockey game the Bears (12-12-2, 9-7-1 ECACHL) handed #5 St. Lawrence (23-5-3, 13-3-1 ECACHL) their first home loss of the season 4-2, at the Appleton Arena in Canton, NY this evening. Freshman O'Hara Shipe (Anchorage, AK) bounced back from two early Saints' goals in the first to record the win finishing the game with 26 saves.

In a fast paced first period both squads showed their offensive explosiveness. St. Lawrence struck first 0:22 seconds in the game having Chelsea Grills record her 14th goal of the season and give the saints an early one goal lead. The lead would not hold up for long when senior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) netted her 12th goal of the season on a Brown power play at the 17:02 mark. Junior Margaret Ramsay (Toronto, ONT) and sophomore Kathryn Moos (Wayzata, MA) both assisted on the goal. Moos got her second assist of the game when she found freshman Hayley Moore (Wakefield, MA) skating down center ice into St. Lawrence's zone. Moore put the puck top shelf over freshman goal minder Meaghan Guckian for the Bears' second goal. With 11:13, left in the period junior Keaton Zucker (Guilford, NH) won the puck along the right side boards and found Link unmarked for her second goal of the game. The Saints cut the lead back to one on a 5x3 advantage with 10:18 left in the period.

With the Bears on a power play early in the second Zucker took a pass from junior Myria Heinhuis (Chatham, ONT) and found senior Katie Guay (Westfeild, MA) at the point. Guay fired a low hard shot passed Guckian to put the Bear's back up by two. In a quick transition mid-way through the period, the Saints had a two on one in the Bears' zone. St. Lawrence's leading goal scorer Rebecca Russell looked to have a sure goal, but Shipe kicked her right leg out to deny Russell the goal and keep the lead at two. Shipe finished up the period saving all eight shots that came towards the Bear's net.

The Saints came out in the third pressuring the Bear defense and Shipe. Chelsea Grills looked to cut Brown's lead to one early in the third, but found a stonewall in Shipe keeping the momentum to Brown's side. With just over two minutes remaining in the game Ramsay was called for an interference penalty giving the Saints a man advantage late in the game. The Bear's penalty kill was aggressive, keeping St. Lawrence from getting any good looks at the net.

The Bears will wrap up their weekend in the North Country tomorrow Saturday, February 19 when they have a 4:00 face-off with the Golden Knights of Clarkson.
