Box Score

Providence, RI - The women's ice hockey (11-11-2, 7-8-1) could not hold off the seventh ranked Lady Lakers of Mercyhurst College (19-6-2, 7-0-1) losing 3-2, this evening at the Meehan Auditorium. After a quick start seeing three goals scored in the first eight minutes both teams settled in where Mercyhurst came out on top, out shooting the Bears 25-18. Brown junior Margaret Ramsay (Toronto, ONT) finished the game with two points assisting on the first goal and scoring the second.

Mercyhurst got on the board first when the Lady Lakers won a draw deep in the Bear's zone. Sara McDonald recorded her tenth goal of the year when she took the draw and snuck the puck past freshman goaltender Stacy Silverman (Wakefield, MA). Brown would answer less then two minutes later on a power play. Senior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) got the Bears on the board with 14:55 left in the period when she received a pass from Ramsay and one timed it past Laura Hosier tying the game at one a piece. Sophomore Kathryn Moos (Wayzata, MN) also was credited with an assist on the play. With just over twelve minutes remaining in the period, Ramsay put the Bears ahead by one when she lit the lamp for her second goal of the season. Juniors Ashlee Drover (Bay Roberts, NF) and Myria Heinhuis (Chatham, ONT) each picked up an assist on the goal.

Mercyhurst tied the game early in the second when Michelle Bonello scored her tenth goal of the season. The Lady Lakers had a chance to go up by one a minute later but Silverman denied Marchese as she stretch post to post to keep the game tied at two. Silverman finished the game with 22 saves. But, the Mercyhurst would take the lead for good with 8:10 remaining in the second when Samantha Shirley and Julia Colizza hooked up for the game-winning goal.

The Bears put pressure on Hosier and the Mercyhurst defense, out shooting the Lady Lakers 9-2 in the final frame, but couldn't find the back of the net giving Mercyhurst the victory. The Brown penalty kill was flawless holding Mercyhurst 0/5 while Brown went 1/4 against the #1 penalty kill in the nation.

The Bears and Lady Lakers will play their final game in this weekend series tomorrow at 4:00 pm.
