Feb. 6, 2004

The Brown University women's ice hockey team (11-5-2, 7-1-1) defeated Cornell (4-14-1, 1-10-0), 4-2 Friday night. Six different players tallied points, with five tallying at least two points to lead the Bears in their second win over Cornell this season.

The Bears got on the board quickly in the first, scoring just over one minute into the period. Junior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) tallied her 15th goal of the season off her own rebounded shot. Senior Marguerite McDonald (Richboro, PA) and sophomore Keaton Zucker notched assists on the play. Brown dominated the period out-shooting Cornell 11-5.

The Bears increased their lead to two in the second after a series of shots sent the Cornell goalie to the ground and freshman Krystal Strassman netted her fourth goal of the season. Freshman Kathryn Moos and junior Krissy McManus tallied assists on the play. Just two minutes later Moos took it top shelf to give the Bears a 3-0 advantage. McManus and McDonald notched their second assists of the day on the play. Cornell got on the board with a power-play goal at the 14:18 mark in the period.

The Big Red brought the game within one at 2:32 into the third period on their second power-play goal of the game. However, Brown added a late goal in the period to clinch the win, 4-2. Junior Amy McLaughlin (Berlin, MA) notched her fourth goal of the season off passes from Link and Zucker who tallied their second points of the game.

Senior goaltender Katie Germain (Sarnia, ONT) recorded the win for the Bears with 23 saves in the game.

Brown will continue on the road when they face Colgate, Saturday, February 7 at 4:00 p.m.
