Box Score

Hanover, NH - Despite controlling play at even strength for much of the game and making a late rally, the Brown women's ice hockey team (3-16-4, 2-11-3 ECAC Hockey) fell to Dartmouth (12-7-4, 9-5-2 ECAC Hockey), 4-1, at Thompson Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Big Green converted on three of their first four power plays, taking a 3-0 lead after two periods that they would not relinquish, despite two Brown goals in the final period.

Junior Maggie Kennedy accounted for the first two Dartmouth goals. She scored the game's first goal at 7:36 in the first period, tipping a shot by Sarah Parsons over Brown goaltender Nicole Stock's (Buffalo Grove, IL) right pad into the top of the net. Kennedy struck again from the slot at 14:43 in the second, taking a pass from Julia Bronson and slipping a shot through Stock's five-hole. Dartmouth senior Carrie Thompson struck on her team's next power play at 18:22, coming from behind the net to Stock's left and wrapping a shot around and into the goal.

The Bears were able to get a pair of goals in the third. Senior Hayley Moore (Wakefield, MA) got her team on the board at 9:48, putting a rebound of a Rylee Olewinski (Burr Ridge, IL) shot in for her team-leading 10th goal despite being off balance after colliding with a Dartmouth defenseman. Freshman Maggie Suprey (South Boston, MA) also earned an assist on the goal.

Dartmouth extended the lead back out to three goals at 12:28, when Marley McMillan took Sarah Newnam's pass from behind the net and beat Stock, giving Newnam three assists for the game. At 17:18, Brown was able to get one last score on a power play, as freshman Erica Kromm (Naramata, BC) sent a wrist shot in from the right point that got by Dartmouth's Carli Clemis, thanks in part to an Olewinski screen, for the defenseman's third goal of the year. Sophomores Jenny Cedorchuk (Medfield, MA) and Andrea Hunter (Fulton, NY) had helpers on the goal.

Dartmouth held a 30-22 advantage on shots, with Stock stopping 26 to Clemis's 20 saves. Each team had six power play chances.

Next weekend, the Bears return home to play Quinnipiac and Princeton. As a part of Brown's Breast Cancer Awareness Week and ECAC Hockey's "Pink at the Rink" campaign, the Bears will wear customized pink jerseys and the coaches special pink scarves at both weekend games. These jerseys and scarves are being auctioned to raise funds at www.ecachockeycoachesvscancer.com. Fans are encouraged to "Pink Out" Saturday afternoon's game by wearing pink to the rink. Tickets are available by calling (401) 863-2773.
