Brown and Cornell Skate to 2-2 Tie
Feb. 2, 2002
Cornell got on the board first, when Eva Nahorniak netted her first goal of the season at the 6:50 mark of the opening period. Nahorniak's powerplay goal came when she received the puck at the blue line and shot it past Bear goaltender Pam Dreyer.
Play continued in the first period, with both teams putting on the pressure, creating scoring chances at both ends of the ice. Big Red goaltender Sanya Sandahl was solid in net, stopping 18 shots in the period.
Jess Link tied the score at 1-1, 7:34 into the 2nd stanza, when she dove for a loose puck in front of Cornell's net, slotting it past Sandahl.
Six minutes into the 3rd period, Kristy Zamora gave Brown a 2-1 lead. Seconds prior to the goal, Cornell goaltender Sandahl denied Zamora on a breakaway, but the senior co-captain and the Bears kept up the pressure, and Zamora collected the puck at the point and fired it into the net.
With just 48.5 seconds left on the clock, Cornell evened the score at 2-2, when Brooke Bestwick tallied her 4th goal of the season, sending the game into overtime.
Pam Dreyer was solid in net, posting 20 saves on the night.
Brown now stands at 13-6-1 overall, 7-3-1 in the ECAC and 3-2-1 in the lvy League. The Bears return to the ice on Friday February 8, for a 7:00pm game at Vermont
