The Brown University women's ice hockey team (9-5-2, 5-1-1) defeated Yale (7-8-3,4-4-0), 2-1 Friday night. Senior Katie Germain (Sarnia, ONT) earned her 9th win of the season, stopping 20 out of 21 shots in goal for the Bears.
Brown quickly took a 1-0 lead 30 seconds into the game. Junior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) netted her 13th goal of the season with Amy McLaughlin and sophomore Keaton Zucker teaming up to earn assists on the play. Germain recorded 7 saves in keeping the Bulldogs scoreless in the period.
The Bears increased their lead to two in the second when freshman Krystal Strassman (Madison, WI) pushed in a loose puck in front of Yale's goalie off a rebounded shot from sophomore Ashlee Drover (Bay Roberts, NF). Junior Krissy McManus (Dedham, MA) also earned an assist on the play. Brown out-shot Yale 13-9 in the period.
The third period went scoreless until Yale netted their first goal with 50 seconds remaining in the game. However, Brown held onto the win with Germain stopping four shots in the period.
The Bears continue on the road to face Ivy-League rival Princeton tomorrow, Saturday, January 31. The game will begin at 4:00 p.m.
