Box Score

Minneapolis, MN - Freshman Rylee Olewinski (Burr Ridge, IL) netted her first career goal with 4:35 left in the game in the Bears' 8-2, loss this evening at Ridder Areana. In a very physical game Brown was able to stop the high powered Minnesota offense to one goal in the first, but the Gophers opened the flood gates in the second period to hand Brown their seventh loss this season. The Bear's record now stands at 10-7-1 overall.

Minnesota's leading scorer Natalie Darwtiz broke a 0-0 tie with less than three minutes remaining in period to put the Gophers ahead by one going into the first intermission. Minnesota dominated most of the first period firing 16 shots at O'Hara Shipe (Anchorage, AK). Shipe stood strong in the crease for Brown making 15 saves in the opening period. The Bears threatened mid-way in the first when junior Myria Heinhuis (Chatham, ONT) fired a shot towards the net that was blocked in front and bounced out to sophomore Christine Holdredge (Ashley Falls, MA). Holdredge couldn't get control of the bouncing puck and it was cleared out by the Gophers, keeping the Bears off the board.

Minnesota opened the game up in the second period scoring four unanswered goals in five minutes. Junior Krissy Wendell netted back-to-back goals thirty seconds apart to push the game out of reach for Brown. With 11:01 left in the game on a Brown power play, senior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) netted her sixth goal of the season getting the Bears on the board. Sophomore Kathryn Moos (Wayzata, MN) and junior Keaton Zucker (Gilford, NH) assisted on the play. Olewinski collected a loss puck just over the Gophers blueline and put the puck over the left shoulder of Gopher goalie Jody Horak for Brown's second goal.

Brown and Minnesota finish up their two game series, tomorrow January 15 for a 7:05 CT start.
