Bears Drop Penalty-Filled 2-0 Game at Princeton
Jan. 12, 2008
Princeton, NJ - Junior goaltender Nicole Stock (Buffalo Grove, IL) made 39 saves, but it was not enough, as the Brown women's ice hockey team (2-12-3, 2-8-2 ECAC Hockey) dropped a penalty-filled 2-0 decision to Princeton (8-8-4, 6-6-1 ECAC Hockey) at Hobey Baker Rink on Saturday. Princeton senior Marykate Oakley scored on a power play at 6:54 in the third period to put the Tigers up for good, and senior Lizzie Keady scored on the empty net with two seconds remaining for the 2-0 final.
In total, 15 penalties were called for a total of 30 minutes, including four penalties on each team in a second period that saw 8:03 of both teams skating at full strength. Seven of the penalties were for holding or obstruction-holding, three for interference, two for contact to the head-high sticking, and one each for obstruction-holding the stick, hooking, and checking. Stock was especially strong during Princeton's power plays, making 15 saves while the Bears were down a man.
Princeton held a 41-17 advantage in shots, as junior Kristen Young made 17 stops to pick up the shutout victory. Stock's 39 saves mark the 11th time in 17 games she has made at least 30.
Next weekend, the Bears will finish their current five-game stretch of road contests, traveling to play non-conference games against Niagara and #4 Mercyhurst on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
