Brown outshot Yale 44-27 on Friday night, and defeated the Bulldogs, 9-3. Freshamn Katie Guay found the back of the net five times to lead the Bears to the victory.
Kristy Zamora got the Bears on the board first, when she scored off a feed from Cassie Turner. Time of the goal came at 8:01 of the first period. Jessica Link made the score 2-0 going into the first intermission, when she collected the puck behind the net and stuffed it past Yale's goaltender Franck at the 9:07 mark of the first. Meredith Ostrander and Marguerite McDonald assisted on Link's goal.
Katie Guay opened the scoring of the second period, netting her first goal of the game just 48 seconds into the period. Kelly Sheridan and Mandy McCurdy tallied assists on that goal. Then it was the Katie Guay show, as the freshman from Westfield, MA scored four straight goals. The first tally came at 17:41 of the 2nd, from Jenny Rice and Kelly Sheridan. Less than one minute later, Guay lit the lamp again, making the score 5-1 at the end of the period. Yale scored their first goal at 3:07, when Deanna McDevitt got the Bulldogs on the board.
Guay continued her scoring spree just 1:44 into the final stanza, finishing a Meredith Ostrander pass. At 6:42, Guay netted her fourth of the game, when she finished off an impressive breakaway, forcing Yale's goaltender out of the goal and sliding the puck into the net.Cassie Turner and Kelly Sheidan recorded assists on Guay's final goal. Mandy McCurdy got scored at 8:15, from Katie Lafleur and Jess Link. The final tally of the night came when Kristy Zamora scored her second goal of the night at 8:45. Assisting on her goal was Link and McCurdy.
Yale managed to find the back of the net twice more, with both goals coming in the final two minutes of play.
Sophomore Katie Germain made 24 saves on the night, allowing three goals.
Brown (8-6-1, 5-3-0) returns to action on Saturday January 12, when the team will take on Princeton at Princeton, NJ.
