Durham, NH - The Brown women's hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to #7 ranked New Hampshire Saturday afternoon in Durham, NH. The Bears tied the score 1-1 by the end of the first but were unable to get on the board in the final two periods as the Wildcats netted two goals in the second period to take the win. Brown falls to 5-6-3 on the season while New Hampshire improves to 15-3-1.
New Hampshire got on the board early in the game to take a 1-0 lead. Lindsay Hansen netted her fifth goal of the season in front of the net 4:06 into the period. However, Brown tied the game before going into the locker room. Sophomore Jessica Link scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season off a rebound from freshman Karen Thatcher with less than two minutes remaining. Sophomore Amy McLaughlin also earned an assist on the play.
The Wildcats quickly broke the tie, scoring five minutes into the second period. Stephanie Jones found an open corner in the net to give New Hampshire a 2-1 lead. Randi MacMaster and Allison Edgar recorded assists on the play. The Wildcats increased their lead to two on a power play when Debbie Bernhard slipped the puck past Brown senior goalkeeper Pam Dreyer in a scramble in front of the net at the 13:28 mark. Edgar picked up her second point of the game with the assist.
Dreyer helped keep the Wildcats lead to two, making a several key saves in the final ten minutes of the game as neither team scored in the final period.
Brown return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Boston College
