The Brown University women's ice hockey team (5-4-1, 2-0-0) tied the first game of a two-game series 3-3 with Niagara (2-10-3) Saturday night at Niagara Falls Memorial Arena.
In their first game back from break, Brown took a 1-0 advantage over Niagara just one minute into the first period. Junior Kerry Nugent (Andover, MA) notched her third goal of the season with junior Amy McLaughlin (Berlin, MA) and sophomore Margaret Ramsay tallied assists on the play.
However, the Eagles came alive in the second and tied the score at 11:04 into the period.
The Bears recaptured the lead with a goal by Nugent, her second of the game, just under three minutes into the third. However, the Eagles answered back with a goal just over one minute later to tie the score at two a piece. Niagara then took the lead for the first time in the game at 11:13 in the period. With only 35 seconds left in the game Brown tied the score at three with a goal by junior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY). Junior Krissy McManus (Dedham, MA) and McLaughlin added assists on the play.
Both teams remained scoreless in overtime ending the game in a 3-3 tie.
Brown and Niagara will complete their two game series tomorrow afternoon at Dwyer Arena at 3 p.m.
