Position: Assistant Coach
Dawn Loomis enters her second stint as an assistant coach with the Brown women's ice hockey team after a five-year tenure from 1996-2001. On the ice, her primary responsibilities lie with the defense and goalies, while off the ice she coordinates the team travel plans, varied recruiting issues and acts as a liaison with the sports information, marketing and Sports Foundation departments. A 1988 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, Loomis earned a B.S. in Sports Communications. She was a four-year member of the women's varsity ice hockey team that captured two ECACHL Championships and one University Cup during her collegiate career. Playing mainly at defense, she was an assistant captain for the Wildcats as a senior and played in the CCM Senior All-Star game. She received the UNH Seventh Player Award as a junior. Additional coaching experience for Loomis includes working with the Rhode Island Panthers women's hockey program, the Ocean State Development Camp, the Northeast Skills Development Festival and the Digit Murphy Hockey School. Prior to entering the coaching profession on a full-time basis, Loomis utilized her college education in the sports media relations field. She served as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Brown, acting as the men's ice hockey contact in her primary role. She came to Brown from the University of Rhode Island where she served as the Coordinator of Sports Communications from 1992-1994. Before that, she was the Assistant Director of Sports Information and Promotions at La Salle University for three years and the Information Specialist for a year at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Loomis received her Master of Science degree with a concentration in physical education and athletic administration from the University of Rhode Island in 1996. She is a member of USA Hockey and has participated in the coaching certification program. She attended the International Coaching Symposium in Mississauga, Ontario in 2000. Originally from New York, Loomis (formerly Wright) grew up in Centerville, Mass. and attended Barnstable High School, playing field hockey, softball, basketball and volleyball. She was also a member of the Cape Cod Aces hockey team, winners of four national titles. Loomis played in several adult hockey leagues after graduation. Loomis and her husband Rocky reside in Seekonk, Mass., with their daughter Camryn, 2 1/2, and their son Connor, born this past May.
